$100 + $50 materials fee.
Spend the weekend with visiting artist Stephanie Wood as she teaches students about Native American culture and her family background in Kalapuya basket weaving. In this workshop, students will learn how to process Western Red Cedar bark and Coastal Sedge. Students will prepare raw cedar bark for weaving and have a completed basket by the end of the class to take home. Each student will learn how to traditionally process (splitting and thinning to size) the bark and will learn different weaving techniques-plaiting, twining, triple-strand twining and a Salish rim.
