Sumi-e East Asian Brush Painting: Simple Landscapes

$120 + $40 materials fee.
In this workshop with Karen Kurka Jensen, you'll learn about sumi-e techniques developed over thousands of years to create a simple landscape - be it rock forms with a waterfall, or a forest of aspens. We'll begin with basic brushstrokes for your composition using sumi-e ink and watercolor, then utilizing looser techniques, we'll create interesting backgrounds for our work. This won't be a realistic painting but we'll strive to pare down our subject to it’s essence. It is painting from the heart, from your spirit and soul. That is the goal of sumi-e.
