Nature is full of fibers that translate into beautiful paper. Students will learn how to process some “found fibers” like corn husks, flax and iris leaves. Pigmenting cotton linter, a traditional paper making fiber will also be shown. Combining the “found fibers” and colored cotton, along with many different surface design techniques such as water drawing, pulp painting, inclusions and embossing, will give students more than enough creative capitol to work with! Projects are open ended depending on student interest. All supplies are included in the class fees. If students are interested in collage they are welcome to bring additional materials. Georgia Rowswell has experience teaching workshops for all ages. She has conducted paper making workshops throughout the United States. Georgia is a mixed media artist whose focus is fibers and environmentally friendly art. The versatility and gentle practice of paper makes it one of her favorite mediums to teach. Georgia’s work can be seen at www.ArtfulHand.org.
