With Matty Lawler

Learn the simplicity and intricacies of stone sculpture with Matty Lawler.  Students will explore the surface and texture of alabaster stone, which is a soft stone similar to sandstone.  Students will learn about the tools and techniques needed to create beautiful pieces of sculpture.  Matty will guide students in designing their piece by starting with small, geometric shapes, which allows students to familiarize themselves with the medium.  After a couple of small scale exercises, Matty will help guide students in designing and planning their larger piece of stone sculpture.  Matty learned his stone sculpting trade in Italy while training under American artist Glen Ball, and has been working with stone for over 14 years. This class is also open for teens ages 14+, who can handle a more advanced class setting.
