A Sea of Possibilities: Ceramic Surface Decorating Techniques

Saturday, November 11

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

With Vanessa Romo

$100 + $25 materials fee

In this workshop, students will learn how to make their own tools and build an arsenal of new and interesting surface decorating techniques. In this workshop students will learn how to use ceramic underglazes to explore Mishima, Sgraffito, stenciling and more. In addition, students will also learn to make their own stamps and small press molds. Students can create the patterns for stamps and molds, or bring small to medium found objects from nature, the thrift store, or from home that could be turned into a reusable pattern. Students will use these techniques to take their work to another level and discover something new that is completely their own. Each student will decorate clay slabs that can be used as tiles or wall mounted art. Students will leave unfired stamps and slabs at KAC to be fired.  Due to drying and firing times, pottery will be ready to pick up 12-14 days after the class session is finished.
